Originally costed at under $6.5 million, the stadium project has, over the past four years, been subject to significant cost escalations, with the total now sitting at approximately $11 million. This increase has placed the project well beyond the financial reach of our district through local funding and charitable contributions alone.
Following constructive discussions with the Ministry of Education and Sport Waikato, the project was reimagined to be integrated more centrally within the Matamata College grounds — replacing the school’s aging gymnasiums and expanding its benefit to both students and the wider community.
In support of this revised direction, Sport Waikato has committed to actively endorsing the project and continues to encourage both regional and national funders to prioritise grant applications for the stadium’s completion.
While we continue to receive generous support locally, we are still actively fundraising within our community to help close the funding gap — every contribution brings us one step closer to delivering a transformational facility for our region.
Let’s get into Action !
