We spoke to Angus Robson, President of the Matamata Badminton Club:
“The Matamata Badminton Club is a 60 year old Club and its senior, junior and morning Clubs were the largest users of Headon Stadium. Unfortunately the Headon Stadium rebuild is not suitable for Badminton – the ceiling height is far too low, sight issues due to natural light on courts and also colour of ceiling and walls, and non-retractable Basketball hoops meaning useable courts reduce from 5 to 3 (5 was not enough!). We have many people wanting to play and to have a high quality facility would really boost participation. Badminton is the fastest racquet sport in the world and the 2nd most popular sport in the world. We hope to grow our Club in a stadium that is purpose built for indoor sports. Let’s make it happen Matamata!”
